Principal’S message

Principal Cristina Gonzalez

PS 94 is more than a typical neighborhood school; it is a safe haven and launching pad for greatness, both for our students and the wider community. Our role has always been to educate the children of Sunset Park, and we cannot do that with fidelity unless we strive to educate our students with the ideals of scholarship, leadership, joy, voice and relevancy.

As the principal of PS 94 I wish to assure you that your child will receive an education of the highest standard that fosters their leadership skills, their social and emotional intelligence, and promotes a positive multicultural and multilingual identity. I believe that to be academically ready to learn, one must be emotionally ready to take risks and support others in the process; at PS 94 children engage in hands on, relevant, and joyful learning with and beside their peers through multidisciplinary projects, field trips, and explicit language instruction in English, Spanish, and Mandarin. My staff and I seek to validate, respect and elevate students’ identities, as well as make their educational experiences relevant to the current 21st century context as we prepare them to be the decision makers in a multilingual, interconnected, global future. The teachers and support staff of PS 94 are a cohesive and collaborative team of experts that work tirelessly to give your child the best and most well-rounded education possible as well as promoting students’ confidence, skills, and voice.

I have always felt that education is foundational to success. In order to give my students the opportunity to engage with the world around them, I must also do my part to interrupt the social injustices, poverty, and other stressors faced by my school community. I view PS 94 as the hub of support for the greater community; families have access to our food pantry, our clothing boutique, an onsite dental clinic, our health clinic, adult education classes and workshops on topics such as immigration law and SNAP benefits to self-care and Zumba.

Finally, I am committed to supporting our families with a 24-hour response time to parents’ needs and concerns. By including all stakeholders, staff, students, and families, in the PS 94 community, we are educating a generation of well-rounded advocates for change that are proud of themselves and their heritage.
